Consolidated Communications, Inc. is an incumbent provider of voice and data telephony services to business and residential customers in central Illinois and Texas. The company has over 255,000 voice and data lines in service. Spectrum partnered with Richard Lumpkin, the original owner of Consolidated Communications, to acquire the property from the bankruptcy estate of McLeodUSA. After the initial buyout, Spectrum provided additional equity to support the company in its purchase of additional access lines from TXU Corporation making Consolidated the 15th largest telephone company in the U.S. Consolidated went public in July 2005 (NASDAQ:CNSL).
