Description

Golden Sky Holdings was an authorized distribution agent of DIRECTV programming operating under exclusive agreement in select rural markets pursuant to a license arrangement with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative. The company provided front line marketing support and customer acquisition to households in rural markets for pay TV programming offered by DIRECTV. The franchise areas serviced included both cabled and non-cabled communities. Spectrum provided growth capital to Golden Sky in February 1997 in conjunction with its acquisition of territories and subsequent roll-out of marketing services. Following a period of significant growth in territories under management and addition of tens of thousands of subscribers Spectrum was asked by the Board to take the lead in negotiating a sale of the business to Pegasus Communication Inc a publicly listed company.
