PicMonkey Appoints CTO, VP of Product

Seattle, WA - PicMonkey, the leading photo editing and graphic design website, has rounded out its executive team with the appointment of Frits Habermann as chief technology officer and vice president of product. Frits Habermann joins the team with over twenty years of technology leadership experience, to oversee the engineering and product teams and define the product vision for its online photo editing and graphic design service.

"We wanted someone with excellent product chops, operational depth and -- the jewel in the crown -- a passion for best-in-class photography experiences. Frits was a vice president of core technologies at Adobe, shipped amazing games as CTO of PopCap, and has amazing product and operational experience from Lynda.com," said Jonathan Sposato, co-founder and CEO, PicMonkey. "Frankly, I don't think it gets better than this."

Habermann joins PicMonkey after serving as chief technology officer and head of product at Lynda.com, where he drove the product and technical vision for its web and mobile offerings. Prior to Lynda.com, he was the chief technology officer and vice president at PopCap Games, managing the company' strategic technical direction, including client game technologies, social game architectures and content infrastructure. Habermann also served as vice president of core technologies at Adobe where he managed a global 200+ person group that provided key deep-science technologies to its products, and co-founded Adobe InDesign, the leading layout application for graphic designers.

"I'm thrilled to join PicMonkey, a dynamic company that understands the creative consumer and delivers an exceptional experience to a highly engaged and growing user base," said Frits Habermann. "The opportunity at PicMonkey is enormous and deeply aligned with my interests and expertise. Whether international, social, mobile, or B2B, the PicMonkey portfolio is poised for growth."

In his new role, Habermann will work directly with co-founder and CEO Jonathan Sposato to drive PicMonkey's technology and product strategy as the company embarks on its next phase of growth and leadership across the photo editing and graphic design market. PicMonkey recently received a $41 million investment from Spectrum Equity, a leading growth equity firm whose previous investments have included successful online subscription businesses such as Ancestry.com, SurveyMonkey, Prezi and Lynda.com.

Frits Habermann holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Carnegie Mellon and an M.S. in computer science from the University of Washington. He is an accomplished fine art landscape photographer who's captured the world's most spectacular sights.
