Mike Farrell has invested at Spectrum Equity since 2009, focused on software, artificial intelligence, and data businesses. He joined the firm as a Senior Associate and has helped shape its investment strategy across several funds.

Mike’s approach to investing centers on partnership, communication, and trust. Over the course of his career, Mike has led investments in and served on the boards of companies including BATS Global Markets, CINC Systems, CyberCube, EagleView, Origami Risk, and RapidRatings.

Mike’s exits include strategic and sponsor sales of BATS Global Markets (acquired by CBOE), Quantile (London Stock Exchange), EagleView (Vista Equity), RainKing (ZoomInfo/DiscoverOrg), Expert Institute (Levine Leichtman), and Datassential.

He currently sits on the boards of CINC Systems, CyberCube, Origami Risk, RapidRatings, and Litmus.

PORTFOLIO HIGHLIGHTS

• BATS Global Markets became part of the Spectrum portfolio in 2013. An operator of exchanges for global financial markets, the company went public in 2016 and was acquired by CBOE in 2017.

• CINC Systems joined the Spectrum portfolio in 2020, when Spectrum became the company’s first institutional investor. Today CINC is the largest solution dedicated to the community association management industry. Hg became a strategic investor in CINC in 2024.

• CyberCube became part of the Spectrum portfolio in 2025, when Spectrum led a cornerstone investment of more than $180 million. The company delivers cyber risk analytics used across the insurance and reinsurance markets.

• Origami Risk joined Spectrum’s portfolio in 2018. A provider of risk management and core processing software for the insurance industry, Origami has since built out its go-to-market and senior leadership teams, expanded internationally, and acquired Dais Technology. Today the company employs more than 900 people and serves over 1,000 organizations worldwide.

INVESTMENT FOCUS

Mike invests in software, artificial intelligence, and data businesses, with particular depth in financial technology, information services, and vertical software. He looks for opportunities to partner with product-driven companies led by strong management teams, investing across the data, risk, and infrastructure platforms that serve financial markets and other industries.

BACKGROUND

Before joining Spectrum in 2009, Mike worked at Tudor Investment Corporation’s private equity arm. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BA, cum laude, from Bowdoin College.

Mike is involved with Minds Matter, which connects driven students with mentorship and internship opportunities. Outside of work, he spends much of his time shuttling his three kids to their sporting events and activities.
